| NORTHERN INDIANA
1877 -- Part of what was probably a large tornado
outbreak took place in northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. Tornadoes tore
across LaPorte, Saint Joseph Indiana, Elkhart, and Defiance counties.
Several people were killed. Kingsbury, Indiana was hit hard.
1892 -- A tornado skipped along near Bluffton, Ohio.
1924 -- A hailstorm hit Richvalley, Indiana, during which
snow was reported. The snow fell from a funnel-shaped cloud at the same
time that hail was falling from the rest of the storm. The snow covered a
twenty-foot square of ground to a depth of eight inches, surrounded by hail.
A snowball was made and put on display in Wabash. A Weather Bureau (NWS)
employee traveled from the Indianapolis office to investigate, and found the
reports to be authentic. (Flora, Hailstorms of the

1930 -- Plymouth fell to 40°.
1992 -- An F2 tornado caused minor damage southwest of
Decatur, Indiana.
1997 -- Thunderstorm winds folded over a 50-foot tall
amateur radio tower near Decatur, Indiana. They also knocked over a
150-foot radio tower at Goshen. Scottdale, Michigan had 2.25"
diameter hail fall for 20 minutes, with 70 mph winds. A million dollars
damage was done in Berrien County. 2.75" of rain fell in an hour at Niles.
LOWER MICHIGAN
1973 -- A tornado struck two miles east of Leslie in Ingham County, damaging a car, mobile home and several farm buildings.
2001 -- Frost and freezing temperatures were observed in some locations with a 29 degree temperature recorded in Grant, Michigan in Newaygo County. The 39 degrees at Muskegon was the coldest July temperature on record there.
